Warts

Warts are local growths on the skin, shaped like domes. Warts are caused by viruses in the human papilloma virus (HPV) family. There are more than 100 types of warts. They are harmless and in most cases disappear on their own. However, it may take up to two years for wart infections to clear up.

Warts are contagious and spread when the human papilloma virus is passed on. In the case of genital warts, this occurs through sexual contact. Warts develop three to six months after infection. Children are more susceptible to warts than adults. There are different treatment options for warts.

Your GP can remove the wart by applying liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy) or cutting it out. In most cases, cryotherapy is preferred. If it is an older wart, liquid nitrogen treatments may be needed a total of five to ten times. Liquid nitrogen wart removal kits for home use are therefore a convenient solution. See below to order.
