Norinyl-1

Norinyl-1 is a combined oral contraceptive pill. Norinyl-1 tablets contain two active ingredients, mestranol and norethisterone. Both are synthetic versions of the natural female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone. Norethisterone of progesterone and mestranol is converted in the body as ethinylestradiol, a synthetic version of estrogen.

Norinyl-1 mimics the normal menstrual cycle. The daily dose of hormones in Norinyl-1 provides three ways to prevent pregnancy. Norinyl-1 makes your body think that ovulation has already occurred, so it prevents ovulation. The hormones affect the production of natural cervical mucus. It increases the thickness of this mucus. Sperm will not be able to reach the uterus as well. The change in quality of the endometrial layer prevents implantation of a fertilized egg.

You use Norinyl-1 to prevent pregnancy. Using Norinyl-1 may result in a lighter, less painful and more regular menstruation cycle. Women with unwanted menstrual symptoms may benefit from the use of Norinyl-1.

Healthy women who do not smoke virtually run no risk of serious side effects. Sometimes, however, some experience side effects. If these persists for longer than three months, it makes sense to contact the doctor. The following side effects may occur after using Norinyl-1:

• breakthrough bleeding
• change in vaginal discharge
• nausea and vomiting
• dizziness

You should take one tablet daily for 21 days, after 7 days an intermission follows. You will menstruate during that period. Then you will begin the following strip, even if you still slightly bleed. The tablets are marked with the days of the week. You start taking the pill on the first day of your period. Swallow each pill as a whole, with water if necessary, without chewing. Note: Take the pill everyday at the same time, inconsistent use may alter the contraceptive effect negatively.

Norinyl-1 will not protect you against sexually transmitted diseases. It is important to ensure that Norinyl-1 the right contraceptive for you. Norinyl-1 is suitable for most healthy young women, but it should not be taken when you are pregnant.
