What are Ibandronic Acid tablets?
Ibandronic Acid belongs to the bisphosphonate group of medicines that counteract bone loss and increase bone mass. You can order Ibandronic Acid 150mg online at the pharmacies that work with Dokteronline.
What are Ibandronic Acid tablets used for?
Doctors prescribe Ibandronic Acid for the prevention or treatment of osteoporosis, also known as bone depletion. In this condition, more bone tissue is lost than created. As a result, the bones become brittle and can break more easily. The vertebrae also become weaker and may collapse. This can be accompanied by back pain, a curved spine and muscle, organ or nerve pain.
Osteoporosis occurs more often in the elderly. Women especially during or after the menopause are susceptible to a loss of bone density. This is because of the hormone changes: the decrease of the oestrogen leads to more bone tissue being broken down.
Other factors that can play a role in the development of osteoporosis are:
- Lack of sunlight (if you rarely go outside);
- A poor diet (not enough calcium-rich foods);
- Not enough exercise;
- Certain physical conditions or the use of certain medicines.
Ibandronic Acid binds to the calcium in the bone. This makes the bone tissue less easily broken. As the bones become more solid, the risk of bone fractures or vertebral collapse decreases.
How to use Ibandronic Acid tablets to treat osteoporosis
Take the tablet as a whole on an empty stomach. After swallowing, do not eat or drink anything (except tap water) for one hour. Ibandronic Acid is irritating to the oesophagus and can cause irritation. Take the tablet either standing up or sitting down, and don’t lie down for the first hour. This prevents the tablet from sticking in the oesophagus.
What is the correct dosage for Ibandronic Acid tablets?
Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, the usual dose is as follows:
- Women during or after the menopause (for postmenopausal osteoporosis treatment): Take 1 Ibandronic Acid tablet of 150 mg once a month on a fixed day.
In the case of other indications, a doctor may give a different dose recommendation. Read the instructions before Ibandronic Acid tablet use.
