What is Elevin?
Elevin is a combined pill, a contraceptive pill based on two hormones. This contraceptive contains ethinylestradiol (an estrogen hormone) and levonorgestrel (a progestin hormone). Elevin is, when used correctly, a highly reliable contraceptive. You can order Elevin online through the pharmacies working together with Dokteronline.com.
What is this medication used for?
This contraceptive pill prevents the creation of a pregnancy. The hormones in Elevin make sure there is no ovulation. Moreover, the composition of the mucous membrane in the uterus and cervix changes. This makes it more difficult for sperm to reach the uterus and renders implantation of the fertilized egg impossible. Doctors sometimes prescribe Elevin to treat menstrual symptoms (severe abdominal pain and/or bleeding, irregular periods). When using this pill, there is no longer any question of a real menstruation but there will be a regular, mild withdrawal bleeding.
How to use Elevin?
Elevin is supplied in packs of 21 pills. Swallow one pill each day until the pack is empty. After this you do not take a pill for seven days. During this stop week a bleeding starts. On the eighth day, you start a new strip of pills, even if the bleeding has not stopped yet. If you forget to take a pill or if you have vomited or suffered from watery diarrhea, the reliability of the pill may be reduced. In this case see the leaflet for the instructions on what to do.
Dosage
The partner pharmacies offer Elevin online in packs of 3, 6 or 12 strips of 21 pills. The dosage is as follows:
- Adult women: take 1 pill once daily for 21 days at a fixed time. Followed by a stop week of seven days.
Read the instructions before use.
Side effects
Like all medications, Elevin can cause side effects. You may, especially in the beginning, experience symptoms such as:
- Headache;
- Bleeding;
- Vaginal yeast infection;
- Nausea, vomiting;
- Painful or tender breasts;
- Acne;
- Mood swings.
If you suffer from severe side effects or suffer from symptoms for an extended period of time, please consult a doctor. You will find a complete list of side effects in the leaflet.
When is it best not to use this medication?
Elevin is not a suitable contraceptive for everyone. Do not use these birth control pills if you:
- are oversensitive to ethinylestradiol, levonorgestrel or any of the excipients used;
- suffer from a form of cancer that is sensitive to hormones (such as breast cancer);
- suffer or have suffered or present a higher risk of thrombosis or myocardial infarction;
- suffer from pancreatitis or liver disease;
- suffer from vaginal bleeding without obvious cause.
The leaflet states in which cases extra caution is needed when using Elevin. Mention in your order if you suffer from other health problems or if you are taking medication. A doctor knows if you can use Elevin safely in these cases.
Pregnancy / driving / alcohol
Do not take this contraceptive pill if you are pregnant. Elevin is not suitable for use during lactation. A doctor may then prescribe another pill. There are no warnings for this medication with regards to driving or the consumption of alcohol.
